Video: Channels TV Visits Liberated Boko Haram’s Camp In Borno

Channels Television correspondent; Nneota Egbe, reports on the situation in Borno state capital, Maiduguri, as well as Kirenowa village, as residents return to their homes after the military onslaught against members of Boko Haram, which were hosted in the village.

Kirenowa village was reportedly ransacked by the military on the 16th of May and in the wake of it burnt vehicles, houses and fled fundamentalists.

Our correspondent gathered that Kirenowa was a site that hosted Jihadists over 200 years ago.

The village was amongst four other camps (Marte, Chikun, Gudu and Hausari) inhabited by the Islamic sect, 60 km from the Nigerian-Chad border.

They have all been routed by officers of the Nigerian Army following the state of emergency declared in the state.

The military officials on ground claim to have commenced a process of ‘Peace Building’ in the liberated areas as residents who had fled ahead of the military onslaught return.

Speaking with Channels Television, residents of Kirenowa village, expressed their gratitude to the federal government for rooting out the insurgents who they claim are ‘invaders’ and they appealed that the federal government should further come to their aid as the farming season begins in that part of the country.

The villagers who spoke through one of their elders, stated that activities of Boko Haram have disrupted their annual farming and unless help comes their way quickly, they may not be able to meet up with the cultivation of wheat.

Their call is coming weeks after the state of emergency was declared in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states by President Goodluck Jonathan.
